Hello, my name is Alex Platt of Swift Virtual Assistant. I live in Warrington with my husband and two sons who are 2 and 5 years old. We enjoy going out on walks together, going to the zoo or are happy pottering around at home and playing in the garden. In my limited free time, I enjoy playing the piano, watching films and knitting (sometimes altogether).
My business is Swift Virtual Assistant which offers an Executive Personal Assistant service to small and medium sized businesses. We aim to become part of your business to boost, not drain it. We allow you as a business owner to regain your time, to be more productive and to focus on the goals which will grow your business. The benefits of a Virtual Assistant (VA), is that you pay for exactly the time you use and no more – so as little or as much as you need and can afford. As we work from home, there is no need to pay employee benefits and you get a highly skilled employee with no training required.
I have worked in Administration for over 15 years and for the last 8 years of my career I was a Personal Assistant in Australia and then an Executive Assistant in the NHS and I loved my job! Once I had my first son though, I never went back to full time hours, but worked flexibly from home some days and in the evening, which was the beginning really of being a VA. In 2013 the government abolished Strategic Health Authorities and I decided then to take redundancy and start my own business. I graduated from the VA Mastery Course with VACT which helped me to build the foundations of my business and how to change from being a PA to a VA. It is still the best thing I decided to do!!
I love nothing more than to complete a project that someone has asked me to do with the results they desired, it’s a buzz to know it was you that made it happen! I suppose I am a bit of a control freak (my husband would say) but I think all PAs have that in them a bit!
My biggest challenge currently is juggling family with running a new business. I launched officially in September 2014 and have found that although I could have gone hell for leather with setting everything up, it has worked better with my family to take my time and build it slowly.
My aspiration for my business is to be a one-stop-shop for business owners. I hope to provide, through skilled associates, all the services that a small business owner may need to call upon to help grow their business – for example Marketing, PR, Websites. Instead of having to search for all these providers, I would refer them to the specialist associate and they would still only pay according to exactly how much time they use.
I found Bizmums through a Google Search for networking groups for Mums in the North West. I have found it invaluable for starting my business AND have made new business friends too who all understand the struggles of juggling family and business life. The support of the Facebook groups are brilliant and I love the online networking evenings.
I host the Warrington Meetup which is a lovely meeting. We regularly get about 16 people attending (or more) and there is a really good mix of businesses and business owners. The Bizmums events are so relaxed and friendly – there is never a need for anyone to be nervous to attend them. Plus you always come away with some top tips to follow up and lots of new contacts. The mix of businesses is quite unique and I have met some very interesting people! So if you’re a lady in business (mum or not!) and in the Warrington area – why not pop along and visit us. I would love to meet you and tell you in person why Bizmums will be instrumental in your business moving forwards.
